Gary has been keeping Mbuna cichlids for years — fascinated by their behaviour, their colours and the complexity of replicating their natural habitat in a home aquarium. Like most serious hobbyists, he spent countless hours searching for good advice and found the same problem everywhere: generic, impersonal answers that knew nothing about his specific tank.
After a serious health scare that forced him to step back from work, Gary found himself with time on his hands and a question that wouldn't leave him alone: why doesn't a proper AI aquarium assistant exist? One that actually knows your tank, remembers your fish, reads your test kits and gives you advice that's relevant to your specific situation?
Having not used a computer since 1998, he taught himself everything from scratch. APIs. Code. Terminal. Database architecture. AI integration. What started as a personal tool quickly became something bigger — a full iOS app built to the standard the hobby deserves.
AquaBuddyAI is the result of that journey. It's not a corporate product. There's no team of product managers or venture capital behind it. It's one fish keeper who wanted better tools, and who built them.
